We are fortunate to enjoy the company of retired periodontist Dr Parsons, who will be sharing unique experiences and stories, valuable advice and lessons learnt over the decades through his highly successful career as a local periodontist here in Canberra.



ABOUT SCOTT

A figure who really needs no introduction to the people of Canberra, Dr Scott Parsons was a well-loved periodontist who ran Capital Periodontics in the Canberra suburb of Turner.

Scott completed his formal training in dentistry with a BDSC (1st Class Honours ) in 1972 (UQ). He was awarded the University Medal in 1973, and then received his MDSc (Periodontics) in 1981 (UQ).

Since graduation, Scott has worked as a :

  • Dental Officer at a Government Dental Clinic in Roma, QLD from 1973 - 1975

  • Dentist at his private practice in Woden, ACT from 1975 - 1977

  • Temporary Lecturer at the UQ Dental School, lecturing in Restorative Dentistry and Periodontics from 1977- 1981

  • Periodontist at his Specialist Periodontics Practice in the ACT from 1982 - 2016.

Scott has held the following positions:

  • Chairperson of the Dental Board of the ACT.

  • President of the Australian Society of Periodontology.

  • Secretary Treasurer of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists.

  • Chairperson of the Division of Periodontics, RACDS.

Scott has enjoyed involvement with Periodontal Regenerative procedures and Dental Implants. He trained in placement of Straumann, Nobel Biocare and 3i implant systems. Scott commenced Implant dentistry in 1992 . Scott has produced the following publications:

  • Mechanical Debridement in Periodontal Therapy

  • A Review from the "End Point " Perspective. Periodontology: 17 (1) 50-59-1996

  • Factors affecting the Predictability of Guided Tissue Regeneration. Periodontology: 12 (2) 19-27 1991

Scott has given numerous presentations to local study groups in the ACT and surrounds, including:

  • Keynote lecturer ADA ( NSW) Conference ( Wollongong) 1989

  • Lecturer ADA ( NSW ) CONFERENCE, ACT 1997

  • Lecturer ADA ( Federal ) congress, Perth 1998

  • Several Lectures to the A.S.P, ANZAP and Multidisciplinary Academy.

  • Scott has been member of numerous academic bodies and has been a mentor for

  • the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry ( Oral Implants).

Scott retired in 2016 and enjoys being able to spend more time with his family. His hobbies include travellling, cycling, trout fishing , art and long lunches.
